A Comparison of the Effects of Pyridoxine and Pantothenic Acid Deficiencies on the Nervous Tissues of Swine
نویسندگان
چکیده
1. When pigs were fed diets deficient in pyridoxine or pantothenic acid, ataxia developed and lesions were found in the sensory neuron. 2. The morphological pattern of the lesions differed in the early stages of the two deficient states. Degeneration of the peripheral process of the sensory neuron was the initial and most prominent feature in pyridoxine deficiency. Chromatolysis was the first evidence of damage to the afferent neuron in pantothenic acid-deficient animals. 3. The possible significance of this evidence of damage to different portions of the sensory neuron is discussed.

A Comparison of the Effects of Pyridoxine and Pantothenic Acid Deficiencies on T H E Nervous Tissues of Swine* By
During the past 6 years, experiments have been reported from this laboratory on swine in which deficiencies in vitamins of the B complex have been produced. Of particular interest have been the studies on the relationship of vitamin deficiency to the integrity of nervous tissues. I t was first shown that degeneration of the peripheral nerves, dorsal root ganglion cells, and posterior columns of...

متن کاملThe Effect of Oral Administration of L-Tyrosine, Folic acid and Pyridoxine on Perphenazine Induced Catatonia in Rat
L-tyrosine, B6 and folic acid are involved in biosynthesis of DOPA and consequently dopamine. The aim of this study was to investigate the antiparkinsonian effect of these agents in perphenazine-induced catatonia in rats. Murprogo method or scored muscular rigidity, which is induced by a phenothiazine, was used to evaluate the antiparkinsonian effect of these agents. A significant decrease in m...

متن کاملThe modification of choline deficiency by simultaneous pantothenic acid deficiency.
It was found recently (1) that feeding a cholesterol-rich diet to pantothenic acid-deficient rats did not result in the fatty livers and high levels of cholesterol in liver and serum seen in comparable animals maintained on a normal diet. Decrease in food intake appeared not to account for this phenomenon, since the food intake of the deficient group on a body weight basis was higher than that ...
